Christopher F. Edwards Jr. and Carlos O. Hardy Release New Book Volonians

Christopher F. Edwards and Carlos O. Hardy recently released their new book Volonians: Mysteries of the Vondercrat.

“Volonians is a must-read if you love fantasy books like Twilight or Harry Potter,” said Kelsey McBride, Publicist at Book Publicity Services.

Volonia, a magical planet, is home to millions of beautiful Witches and Warlocks. Their magic is mighty, their spells are rich in tradition and their rituals stand the test of time. Varah Cutter, a rebellious, crafty Witch, has single handily conjured a book only The House of Lords can summon. The Vondercrat is the most powerful book in all of Volonia. Varah soon realizes The Lords aren’t the only entity after her, but an evil brigade lead by the mighty Menace. Varah’s fate stands in ruins as she fights to protect her children, her honor, and her truth.

“Volonians has a strong family element that we hope readers will relate to emotionally,” said Carlos. “The Cutters are tight-knit. When an intense battles ensues between Varah and The House Of Lords, her family stays strong and sticks together to protect each other.”

“I think readers, especially minorities, will appreciate the ethnic diversity in Volonians,” said Christopher. “The Volonians aren’t actually black, white, Latino, or Asian. They don’t recognize race. Characters in the book are described as having vanilla, mahogany, and almond skin tones. ”

Volonians is available on Amazon in paperback and ebook.

Christopher F. Edwards Jr. and Carlos O. Hardy are from two of the roughest inner cities in America, Flint, MI and East St. Louis, IL. They recently started the Let’s Read program, which is geared at guiding youth across America to read more. Christopher and Carlos plan to travel the United States and perform Volonians as a play at middle schools and high schools this fall. Volonians will be the first of many books in the Let’s Read Program to incorporate theatre and reading.

Christopher and Carlos currently reside in Los Angeles, CA.  To schedule an interview or request a review copy of Volonians, please contact Kelsey McBride at info@bookpublicityservices.com. For more information on Volonians, visit http://volonians.com/

Summer Series Celebrates True Stories Of American Dogs

Author and historian Kate Kelly runs a website, America Comes Alive, dedicated to telling little-known stories from America’s past. Each summer, throughout July and August, America Comes Alive celebrates the “Dog Days of Summer” with three new dog stories each week for eight weeks, from service dogs and military dogs to President’s dogs and dogs in show business.

“Owney, the post office dog that became a mascot for the U.S. postal service in the 1880s, was the first dog I wrote about,” says Kate Kelly. “After Owney, I came upon all sorts of stories—Sergeant Stubby, a pit bull who accompanied a military unit throughout World War I and came home safely. There are also stories of dogs with all sorts of jobs, and of course, the series has to include some Hollywood dogs like Toto and Lassie.”

A few of the dogs that are schedule for 2013 are a dog trained to help scientists track and find endangered species, comfort dogs who are used to calm crime victims or those testifying in court, and Abraham Lincoln’s dog, Fido. There will also be several stories about dogs during the Civil War.

“This is the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, and in my research, I have been finding that though there was no official canine corps in the 1860s that dogs were a vital part of many regiments during this time,” says Kelly. “Readers will be amazed and amused by these stories.”

“The series has been a great way to open a window on America’s past,” says Kelly. “The first seeing-eye dog was not introduced to the U.S. until 1929. The story about how Morris Frank devoted his entire life to make certain his dog was accepted in public places—from buses to restaurants and on airplanes—brings a whole new understanding to Americans when they see a guide or therapy dog with someone on the street.”

Readers may read the stories on the website www.AmericaComesAlive.com, or sign up to receive the stories by email.

In addition, Kate has just released a new book, You Lucky Dog! From Homeless to Famous… True Stories of Amazing American Dogs. The collection is an uplifting compilation of true stories about homeless dogs that survived and thrived against the odds. Kate captures their very souls in moving descriptions of the devotion, loyalty and trust that changed both the fortune of these very special dogs and the lives of their human caregivers. Fourat Janabi Releases New Book ‘S3: Science, Statistics and Skepticism’

Fourat Janabi announced today that his new book, S3: Science, Statistics and Skepticism, is now available for sale on Amazon.

“What causes cancer?  Are genetically modified foods dangerous? Is climate change real?  Do homeopathic remedies really work?”

S3: Science, Statistics and Skepticism, by Fourat Janabi, discusses the differences between good and bad science.

Fourat explores scientific research about cancer, genetically modified foods, climate change, vaccinations, western medicine, homeopathy, evolution, and other fascinating current issues.  This book is about knowing how to differentiate between bad science and good science when reading scientific studies on the Internet. S3: Science, Statistics and Skepticism helps readers learn how to use critical thinking skills to debunk nonsense

Fourat criticizes the prevalence of misinformation online and in the media about scientific research.  He teaches readers the importance of credible sources, sufficient evidence, placebo effects, biases, and sample sizes so that the reader can better recognize bad science.
