At Book Publicity Services, we carry out strategic public relations campaigns to promote authors. We have successfully promoted a variety of genres, both fiction and nonfiction, traditionally and self-published. Our public relations services include social media promotion, coordinating book reviews, distributing press releases, securing exposure in a variety of media outlets (TV, radio, websites, magazines, newspapers), and setting up speaking engagements.
We are currently looking for two part-time interns to work out of our office in Irvine.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Research, maintain, and actively develop media contact lists and databases
• Research, maintain, and actively develop book reviewer contact lists and databases
• Write press releases, pitches, and other promotional materials
• Work closely with a Publicist to develop campaign strategies, positioning of a title, and effective pitch angles
• Manage social media accounts
• Write blog posts
• Research speaking engagement opportunities for our clients at their local libraries, bookstores, book clubs, book festivals, etc
• Create advertising materials
• Upload books to NetGalley and manage book review requests
• Coordinate book reviews
• Monitor Google Alerts
• Additional projects as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
• Must have a real interest in PR, Marketing, Writing, or Publishing and want to pursue a career in the field
• A broad understanding of the digital media space, including bloggers and social media outreach
• Must have excellent writing and communication skills
• Strong social media skills
• Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively
• Ability to work independently
• Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; knowledge of Cision a plus
• Basic computer and internet research skills
The internship position is 12-20 hours a week to start. Work days and times are flexible. Must work in office. We are located at 15615 Alton Parkway, Suite 450, Irvine, CA. The pay is $10/hour to start, and we provide biweekly paychecks. Room for growth.
This entry-level position is a great way to gain meaningful experience in the PR industry. It is the perfect position for students looking to get their foot in the door in the public relations industry, build their resume, gain career experience, and get college internship credit. We are more than willing to fill out internship paperwork, and write letters of recommendation when needed.
