The Very Patient Gus Davis

The Very Patient Gus Davis is a new children’s book (for ages 3-5), written by Laurie Trumble Davis and illustrated by Marjorie van Heerden.

Gus Davis is an irrepressible French bulldog who wants what he wants when he wants it. Bean is Gus’s best friend who knows that what he needs is to be patient. Who will win? They both will! Gus and Bean, stars of The Unsinkable Gus Davis, will have readers turning pages as the hilariously stubborn Gus, and his clever friend Bean, discover together that with a bit of cooperation, creativity, and love Gus can, in fact, do anything. Even wait!

What Readers Are Saying:

“Bean is a wonderful example of patience, while Gus, learns that practicing patience isn’t always easy. A delightful story with illustrations that capture the personalities of Gus and Bean. The Very Patient Gus Davis is a fun read for little ones who just can’t wait for that cookie!”—Linda Higley, retired educator

"As a bakery owner I completely understand Gus! Waiting for dessert is so hard; who wouldn’t want to eat the cookies before dinner! Gus learns that waiting can be hard, but when he does, Bean is sure to reward him. The Very Patient Gus Davis takes kids on a wonderful journey about a fun pup, who wants his treats, and along the way learns the art of patience." —Ania Zaroda, owner, Flourhouse Bakery, (Newton, MA)

“When my kids were young, we had favorite books we read every night. The Very Patient Gus Davis would have definitely become one of those favorites. Gus is so lovable and charming. Our dog is a part of our family just like Gus is a part of Bean's family. Such an adorable and relatable story.” —Cecille Katz, applications engineer, mother of two kids and a fur baby

“I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Very Patient Gus Davis by Laurie Trumble Davis! I especially appreciated how it provides helpful strategies to develop the new skill of patience for its audience. Playfully using redirection to delay immediate gratification (so crucial in today’s culture!), Gus is set up for success by his trusted pal, Bean. The book beautifully illustrates that children (and Gus!) can nurture and strengthen the skill of patience when in a supportive environment. Patience is a foundational skill that underpins many aspects of child development, including emotional regulation, executive functioning, social skills, persistence, and self-efficacy. With its engaging storytelling and beautiful illustrations, the book inspires children to embrace patience as they embark on their own learning adventures. It is a must-read for anyone seeking to instill valuable life skills in young learners!” —Lynn Shevory, Montessori educator

“The Very Patient Gus Davis is yet another adorable story by Laurie Trumble Davis that draws us into the heartwarming relationship between Bean and her French bulldog, Gus, while teaching us important life lessons along the way. The illustrations are filled with endearing expressions, captivating the imaginations of us all.” —Becca Cahaly, mom of four kids and one spirited dog (Wellesley, MA)
